Chinese leader noted that relations between the two countries have stood the test and have proved their viability
BEIJING, 15 December. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for resisting attempts to drive a wedge between China and Russia during online video meeting between two leaders on Wednesday.
“Recently, at various events, you expressed appreciation of Russian-Chinese relations, calling them an example of cooperation between states in the 21st century, stood foursquare behind China in efforts to protect key national interests, and strongly opposed attempts to drive a wedge between our countries. I highly appreciate it", he said.
“I am ready to sum up the overall results of the development of our relations this year, to outline plans for further strengthening of cooperation in various fields to provide sustainable and high-quality development of our bilateral ties,” added the head of state.
Chinese-Russian relations have withstood various tests and demonstrated their viability, Xi Jinping said.
"The world has entered a turbulence period of and great change. We all observe great changes Chinese-Russian relations, having withstood various kinds of tests, have demonstrated their strong vitality, acquired a fresh breath," he said.
Xi Jinping noted that "China and Russia strongly support each other on issues of vital importance, upholding their national dignity and interests."
"We are at the helm of Chinese-Russian relations and maintain close contacts in various forms on key agenda items," the Chinese leader said.
The previous meeting of Xi Jinping and Putin via videoconference took place on June 28. It was confined to the 20th anniversary of the conclusion of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation. As a result of the meeting, the extension of the Treaty was announced.
