Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the renewal of the Silk Road spirit, speaking at the tonight's banquet in honor of foreign guests who participate in the High Level Forum on International Cooperation within the framework of "The Belt and The Road" project.
Before the beginning of the banquet, Xi Jinping with his wife Peng Liyuan greeted their guests at the Great Hall of the People.
While toasting at the banquet, Xi Jinping said, "Over 2,000 years ago, our ancestors, driven by the desire of friendship, laid the land and sea Silk Roads, and thus launched a great era of exchanges between civilizations."
"Today we gathered here to renew that special Silk Road spirit and discuss the development of the "One belt, one road' concept in the context of international cooperation. This is both evidence of respect for our common heritage and the right choice for the future," he said.
Xi Jinping stressed that the "One Belt, one Road" Initiative embodies the pursuit of inter-civilizational exchanges, the hope for peace and stability, the pursuit of mutually effective development, and the common dream of a better life.
Xi Jinping said: "We are at a new starting point and ready to start new journey together. As long as we move forward with a common vision, without backtracking or stopping, we will achieve even greater connectivity and benefits by supporting each other's development."
After the banquet, guests, accompanied by Xi Jinping and his wife, watched a gala concert at the National Performing Arts Center.
