On October 11th, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture hosted the 4th meeting of the Subcommittee on Agriculture of the Russian-Chinese Commission for the preparation of summit, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Evgeny Nepoklonov and Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China Qu Dongyu.
During the meeting, which took place on the eve of the next summit of Russia and China (November 1st, 2017, Beijing), members of Commissions of Russian-Chinese cooperation discussed issues of Russian-Chinese interaction in agricultural sector, as well as the results of activity of the sectoral working group for the past year.
The meeting participants discussed issues related to bilateral trade and providing an access of Russian agricultural products to Chinese market, prospects for cooperation in implementation of joint infrastructure projects in agriculture, development of measures to improve investment climate in agricultural sector, taking into account also the border regions of Russia and China, strengthening cooperation in scientific and technological research and education, as well as the development of a joint program of Chinese-Russian cooperation in agricultural sector at the Far East of the Russian Federation.
“We are engaged in constructive dialogue on all the issues specified. The necessary framework conditions for successful work have been ensured,” emphasized Evgeny Nepoklonov .
In July 2017, Chinese Agriculture Minister Han Changfu has attended Russia with the visit, during which a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China on further strengthening of cooperation in the field of agriculture was finally signed.
“We fully support the focus of Russian-Chinese cooperation on further development in the agricultural sector, following the reciprocity principle in our work, and hope for the similar position of the Chinese party,” said Evgeny Nepoklonov.
The parties confirmed the importance of joint infrastructure projects and their coordinated implementation . Relevant examples have been already identified. Among them, it is necessary to mention, first of all, an important initiative of "The New Land Grain Corridor Russia-China", within the framework of which the project "Grain Terminal Zabaikalsk" is currently being implemented.
“Our interaction with the Chinese partners is not limited to bilateral trade issues only. We consider our partnership more broadly, taking into account currently available conditions,” said Evgeny Nepoklonov.
Russia and China confirmed the strategic nature of the mutual partnership in the agrarian sector.
For reference: As of 9 months of 2017, mutual trade turnover of agricultural products and foodstuffs increased by 7% compared to the same period of last year, reaching an amount of 2.4 billion US dollars. Supply volumes of such Russian products as frozen fish, crustaceans and mollusks, nuts, rape seeds, soybean and rapeseed oils, and flour have increased.
