EEU and China decided to establish an independent international monetary and financial system
China and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), where Russia is a member state, consider establishing an independent international monetary and financial system, Sputnik Kazakhstan writes. For this purpose, the countries decided to introduce a single international currency.
The decision was made following a video conference on cooperation between the EEU and China. The value of the new currency will be calculated as an index of the national currencies of the member countries and commodity prices. The meeting participants agreed to submit the draft decision for discussion by the end of March.
"Given the common challenges and risks associated with the global economic slowdown and restrictive measures against the EAEU member states and China, our countries should intensify actual cooperation both at the level of regular expert dialogues and in the area of joint activities and projects," said Sergey Glazyev, the Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEU. He noted that China was the first in the world to move to national economy recovery after the pandemic lock down.
