Relations between Russia and China are a real example of interstate cooperation in the 21st century, Russian President Vladimir Putin believes. He made this statement at the opening of negotiations with Chinese leader Xi Jinping via videoconference, according to TASS report.
Putin noted that he appreciated the opportunity to have a direct video call with the head of the PRC, since this allowed to discuss the development of Russian-Chinese relations, as well as “comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.”
“Our countries developed a new cooperation model, which is based amongst other matters, on such things as non-interference in internal affairs and respect for mutual interests, the determination to turn the common border into a belt of everlasting peace and good neighborliness,” the Russian leader stressed.
Xi Jinping, in turn, thanked Vladimir Putin for his opposition to attempts to drive a wedge between China and Russia. According to him, the world is passing through great changes, undergoing a "period of turbulence" now, but Russian-Chinese relations have proven their viability and "acquired a new breath."
“Recently, at various events, you expressed appreciation of Russian-Chinese relations, calling them an example of cooperation between states in the 21st century, stood foursquare behind China in efforts to protect key national interests, and strongly opposed attempts to drive a wedge between our countries. I highly appreciate it," the leader of the People's Republic of China concluded.
Earlier, the head of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China (NPC), Li Zhanshu, said that Russian and Chinese lawmakers should focus on joint initiatives to minimize the impact of Western sanctions.
