Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation — President’s Plenipotentiary in the Far East Region Yuri Trutnev asked the Chinese side to speed up the work on cooperation issues within the context of the Land Grain Corridor Russia-China.
The fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Chinese Commission on Cooperation and Development of the Far East and the Baikal Regions of the Russian Federation and the Northeast of the People’s Republic of China took place on Thursday. The video conference was held between Yu.Trutnev and Deputy Prime Minister of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Hu Chunhua.
The agenda also included the issue of expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector. Mr. Trutnev noted that the Russian side is ready to continue increasing export of agricultural products to the Chinese market and, in this regard, pays special attention to the project «New Land Grain Corridor Russia — China»
«A key element of the project is the launch of the Grain Terminal Zabaikalsk with a capacity of 8 million tons per year, in order to provide storage and transshipment of the grain crops for further delivery to China. This will significantly increase goods transiting rate. On our part, all terminal work was completed and opening of the facility took place in the context of the latest Eastern Economic Forum. I also ask you to consider the possibility of speeding up the work on your part,» Mr. Trutnev said.
After the meeting, he explained to reporters that despite expanding cooperation, there are still quite a lot of obstacles related to the clearance of goods, with regard to the protection regimes against COVID-19. «The new grain terminal will require the collaboration of regulatory authorities such as Rosselkhoznazdor and Customs on both sides. This procedure needs to be worked out,» the Deputy Prime Minister specified.

Grain Terminal Zabaikalsk is the part of the Group of Companies «New Land Grain Corridor», implementing the same named large-scale Program, which is supported by the President of the Russian Federation. This Program, due to its successfully implemented and replicated mechanism of «contract production» with production advancing and full technological support, using environmentally friendly technologies and only scientifically based methods of work, will increase grain production in the Urals, Siberia and Far East regions from current volumes of about 27 million tons per year to 60 million tons per year or more. Moreover, this initiative will allow to invest in the development of grain storage and processing infrastructure.
The operator and organizer of the «contract production», elevator infrastructure, as well as the holder of export contracts, is represented by FET Production and Export Company, which is also a member of the Group of Companies «New Land Grain Corridor».
