The terminal is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2022
«The Zabaikalsky Grain Terminal, which is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2022, will essentially open a gateway for Russia to export grain to Central Asia, the Middle East and China,» Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said during the project presentation in Chita.
«I want to congratulate you —the terminal will finally start to operate soon. As you already said, this is the world’s first overland terminal with end-to-end technology. Moreover, it solves the problem of different track gages and, therefore, essentially opens a gateway for exports to Central Asia, as well as the Middle East and China,» Mishustin said.
The Zabaikalsky Grain Terminal is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2022. It will be the largest grain logistics facility in Russia, as well as the world’s first specialized integrated overland grain terminal. The terminal will solve the problem of different track gages, provide separate storage and transshipment services, and ensure a high level of biosecurity.
Karen Ovsepyan, CEO of the terminal, told the Prime Minister that the «facility is unique in every way».
«This is the world’s first overland grain terminal and Russia’s largest grain terminal. Its capacity is eight million tonnes per year. Innovation is in everything,» Ovsepyan said.
The terminal is the first and key element in the New Russia-China Land Grain Corridor project. The project is expected to eliminate infrastructure constraints for grain handling in the Far East and reduce grain transportation costs.
Mishustin arrived at Chita on Tuesday as part of his five-day trip to the Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts on August 12-16. Earlier, the Head of Government visited Gorno-Altaysk, where he chaired a meeting to discuss the development of the tourism and hospitality industry in the Russian Federation. He also visited Yakutsk and participated in an emergency prevention and response meeting.
