Installation of technological equipment at the first grain railway terminal "Zabaikalsk-Manchuria" in the Trans-Baikal Territory will be started in the 3rd quarter of 2021, a classification decision for the import of the equipment is being prepared now, Chita.Ru information agency was told in the regional Ministry of Economic Development in response to an official request.
Zabaikalsky Grain Terminal LLC is implementing a project of the agro-industrial park and a grain railway terminal Zabaikalsk-Manchuria. Financing has been started and 219 workplaces are already created. Beginning of the technological equipment installation is scheduled for the 3rd quarter of 2021, and a classification decision for equipment delivery is in progress. Certification and accreditation are planned to be completed in August 2022,” as stated in the document dated June 24.
The project of a grain terminal with the storage capacity up to 80,000 tons and possibility of transshipping up to 8 million tons of various crops was approved in September 2014, and a year later Governor Konstantin Ilkovsky signed a contract for the construction of the terminal with Karen Ovsepyan, General Director of Grain Terminal Zabaikalsk LLC.
As of January 1, 2016, 293 million rubles were financed out of the required 6.2 billion rubles, and the agreement signed by Natalya Zhdanova, who replaced Ilkovsky at governor's position, did not provide for the implementation of specific investment projects. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev included the construction of the terminal in the concept of the development of the Far Eastern Federal District border areas.
In March 2018, the facility design was completed, and in April 2019, the Chinese company Power China announced its intention to invest in the construction of the terminal that had not yet begun and in the road infrastructure for the export of agricultural products to China. In the fall of 2020, the creation of an agro-industrial park and construction of the grain railway terminal was included in the National Program of Far East Socio-Economic Development. Work began in early 2021, and construction is scheduled to be completed by 2023.
