MOSCOW, February 11th /TASS/. Construction of a grain railway terminal for Russian grain export to China may start in Transbaikalia this year. Journalists learned this from Sergey Levin, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
“We expect that construction will begin by the end of the year, actually, the first stage can be completed in one or one and half year,” he said.
The project will be implemented by two companies - Siberian and Chinese, Levin explained.
On September 23, 2015, Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Konstantin Ilkovsky, and General Director of Grain Terminal Zabaikalsk, Karen Ovsepyan, signed an engagement agreement to implement this investment project. Ovsepyan said that creation of the terminal is the first stage of a large-scale project to export Siberian grain to China.
The head of the Grain Terminal Zabaikalsk said that now there is no export potential for Siberian grain, due to lack of technical ability to transport it by railway with different railway gauges on Russian and Chinese sides of the border.
It is planned that the grain terminal will serve only Siberian regions, which, after its introduction, will gain a competitive advantage over the key suppliers of grain to China - Canadian, Australian and US companies.
