Zhang Hong specified that the Russian Federation is able to significantly increase the export of wheat and barley to China — in which production Russia «has both price and quality advantages.»
The creation of the «New Land Grain Corridor Russia — China» in accordance with the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin will allow Moscow to significantly increase supply of relevant agricultural products to China due to the huge potential for cooperation between two countries in the agricultural sector. This view was expressed on Friday by Mr. Zhang Hong, a specialist of the Institute for Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
«As for the land corridor, trains can deliver grain [from Russia] through the border points Manchuria and Suifenhe, according to the expert opinion cited by the Chinese newspaper Global Times. — There is huge potential for cooperation between China and Russia, due to the growing demand for quality agricultural products in China».
He noted that the volume of Chinese-Russian trade in agricultural products is still «not too big.» Zhang Hong specified that the Russian Federation is able to significantly increase wheat and barley export to China — as Russia «possesses both price and quality advantages» in its production".
And even though China, in general, according to the expert, can provide itself with the food products in necessary volumes to meet domestic needs, food security improvement objectives require to diversify grain imports in the country and increase its volume. Zhang Hong recalled that the PRC authorities, in this regard, scaled down customs restrictions on the import of relevant products from the Russian Federation in 2022.
