The 7th Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states has been held in Tashkent today. Russia was represented by Sergey Levin, Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
According to him, the SCO member states are the key players in the global agricultural market. Russia has been a net exporter of food in the past two years and one of the leading suppliers of wheat, barley, vegetable oils, fish and seafood. In 2021, more than 160 countries purchased Russian food products. This year, Russia is expected to show good performance of its agribusiness and continue to make a significant contribution to global food security.
The SCO countries are key trading partners of Russia — over the past years, the turnover of agricultural products has been steadily growing. It has grown by almost 17% in the past six months. As Sergey Levin noted, in order to further increase the mutual trade volume, they should continue efforts to open access to markets and lift all kinds of restrictions.
In addition, on the sidelines of the event, the Deputy Minister visited the Sunny Uzbekistan Fair, where he examined a wide range of local fruit, vegetable and wine products.
