The city of Suifenhe, the largest checkpoint in China's northeast Heilongjiang province involved in the trade between China and Russia, has always been considered a "trade paradise" by Russian buyers, where they could purchase any kinds of Chinese goods. Recently, as the popularity of Russian cakes increased, various food products from Russia have begun to attract more and more attention from Chinese consumers.
When Suifenhe is mentioned, export goods such as clothes, shoes and hats, as well as the famous Qingyun market, come to mind first. However, currently Russian food products become a "new iconic landmark" of this border town.
Entrepreneurs from Suifenhe, designated by the government as the first completely closed Chinese-Russian trade zone, are subject to a preferential policy whereby daily transactions amounting up to 8,000 yuan are not taxed if made within the zone.
Currently, about 200 shops in the city selling a variety of food products imported from Russia. An assortment includes about 300 types of products, such as sweets, alcohol drinks, coffee, etc. Not so long ago, the "Igor" market selling Russian goods with an area of 30 thousand square meters was opened here as well.
Thanks to favorable transport and logistics conditions, as well as due to understanding the peculiarities of the Russian market and the experience of Chinese and Russian entrepreneurs, Suifenhe is currently gaining fame as the "capital of Russian goods."
According to experts involved in the study of Russian-oriented trade, import of Russian products creates great opportunities for the Chinese market, and also contributes to the continuous harmonized development of cross-border trade.
