Export of Russian wheat in the 2016-2017 agricultural year (from July 1st, 2016 to June 30th, 2017) have already broken the historical record of 25 million tons set last season and made Russia the world leader, said First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov.
According to him, Agriculture Ministry predicts that Russian grain export will amount to 34-35 million tons (including 27 million tons of wheat) by the end of this season, RIA Novosti reports.
Khatuov said that leading position of Russia in wheat exports in the world is, first of all, a matter of prestige. However, it is important to maintain the profitability of agricultural producers in order to increase grain production in Russia.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Agricultural Service of the USA predicts that Russia will lose its leadership in wheat exports this year.
In February, General Director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) Dmitry Rylko said that the forecast of the grain yelds in 2017 is “frighteningly good” for the moment.
