Last year, China's trade volume with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states reached a record high of $343.1 billion, showing a 40% growth. The news was announced on Thursday by Gao Feng, the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
"In 2021, the trade volume between China and the SCO member states grew by 40% and reached a historic high of $343.1 billion," he said at a news briefing.
As Gao Feng specified, Beijing planned to step up cooperation with the SCO member states in such areas as the digital economy, and to develop regional cooperation in the field of environment and social projects. He recalled that earlier Chinese President Xi Jinping had set a task for China: to bring trade volume with the SCO member states to $2.3 trillion during the next five years.
"We will cooperate with the SCO countries, adhering to the "Shanghai spirit", taking even more [joint] measures in the fields of trade and economy," said Gao Feng.
