The Chinese authorities are ready to consider the possibility of importing wheat, soybeans, corn and other crops from all regions of Russia, according to the Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia’s agricultural safety watchdog) statement.
Rosselkhoznadzor reports that its delegation, as the part of a business trip to China, took part in the second round of consultations on identifying and removing barriers and restrictions in fields of trade, economic and investments between the Russian Federation and the PRC under the leadership of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia and the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, in which course the Russian authority reported on the agreements reached with the General Customs Administration (GCA) of the People’s Republic of China concerning the regionalization issue.
«In particular, about the GCA readiness to consider the possibility of expanding the list of regions from which the export of Russian grain products is allowed. We discuss the coordination not of just one or two constituent entities of the Russian Federation, as it was before, but of all country regions for the supply of wheat, soybeans, corn, rice and rapeseed to China after providing the information necessary for assessment of pest risks and conclusions of on-site inspections» , the release says.
During the negotiations, General Customs Administration of the People’s Republic of China reported on the volume of annual imports of grain products to China: about 90 million tons of soybeans, 4 million tons of rapeseed, and 3-4 million tons of corn. Taking into account the large capacity of the grain market, GCA expressed interest in increasing the import of Russian grain products.
The parties noted an increase in exports of Russian grain products to China, as well as the start of supplies of such crops as oats, buckwheat, flax and sunflower seeds, the relevant protocols for which were signed on November 1, 2017.
