President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, at a meeting with the heads of governments of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) held on Friday, suggested establishing of a working group to develop joint measures to ease the consequences of geopolitical tensions. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.
"Due to obvious reasons our economic union is concerned about the increased political confrontation caused by the sanctions conflict and the negative consequences for the economies and financial systems of our countries. In Kazakhstan we take anti-crisis measures. This is just the beginning. There is a very hard and difficult work ahead," Tokayev said.
Given this, he proposed to perform this work in a coordinated manner within the EAEU framework. "Given the close interconnection of economic, financial and industrial systems, I believe that a working group should be established within the union to assess risks and develop economic measures aimed at easing negative consequences," the president said.
The president explained that such a working group could have been established at the economic departments level with the involvement of financial regulators. "The coordination efforts should be undertaken by the Eurasian Economic Commission. According to the president, despite the difficult external macro environment, EAEU economic indicators show a good positive trend," the press service said.
